111Nico Rosberg won the Chinese GP in Shanghai, his first Formula 1 win in his 111th race. His father Keke won five Grands Prix from 1982 to 1985, including the drivers’ title in 1982.

3 – The first three Formula 1 races of this season have been won by three different drivers: Jenson Button (Australia), Fernando Alonso (Malaysia) and Rosberg (China). But the championship is led by Lewis Hamilton, who has finished third in each of the three races.

51Neptune Collonges became the first grey to win the Grand National since Nicolaus Silver in 1961, 51 years ago.

3Lionel Messi was awarded his third Ballon d’Or, becoming the fourth player (after Johan Cruyff, Michel Platini and Marco Van Basten) to win three times. He is only the second man after Platini to do so in three consecutive years.

23Sachin Tendulkar was dismissed for 15 and 8 as Australia defeated India by an innings and 37 runs in the third Test in Perth to take a 3-0 lead in the four-match series. Tendulkar remains stuck on 99 international centuries and has now gone 23 innings without registering a ton.

69 – Australia’s David Warner needed just 69 balls to score his century in Perth, the fourth-fastest ton in Test history. Four of the seven fastest centuries have been scored at the WACA. He finished with a total of 180 off 159 deliveries.

Philander has made an astonishing start to his Test career

224 - Jacques Kallis, playing in his 150th Test, recorded his highest ever score of 224 as South Africa won the third and final Test in Cape Town to clinch a ten-wicket win and a 2-1 series victory over Sri Lanka.

30 - South Africa’s Vernon Philander took six wickets in the match, raising his totals after just four Tests to 30 wickets at an average of just 13.23 runs and one wicket every 25.2 balls.

1 - Andy Murray won his first tournament of 2012, defeating Ukraine’s Alexandr Dolgopolov 6-1 6-3 in the final of the Brisbane International.

74 – Seconds between Scott Sinclair‘s two goals, as Swansea beat Reading 4-2 in the Championship playoff final at Wembley.

82Sri Lanka were bowled out in barely two hours for 82, their second-lowest total against England, as they capitulated on the final afternoon of the first Test in Cardiff by an innings and 14 runs.

Scholes announced his retirement from football

150Paul Scholes retired from professional football, having scored 150 goals for Manchester United and won 19 trophies as a player. He also scored 14 international goals in 66 appearances for England.

274Murray Goodwin scored 274 not out as Sussex drew with Yorkshire in the County Championship.

331 – Fourth wicket stand by Durham‘s Ben Stokes (185) and Dale Benkenstein (137) versus Lancashire, three short of the county’s record partnership for any wicket. Durham won by an innings and 125 runs.

6Rafael Nadal won a record-equalling sixth French Open men’s singles title, defeating Federer 7-5 7-6 5-7 6-1. Nadal has now beaten Federer on each of the five occasions they have met at Roland Garros, four of which have been in the final.

101 – Including yesterday’s men’s singles final, Nadal has lost none of the 101 Grand Slam singles matches in which he has led by two sets. This was only the seventh time in those 101 matches he has not closed out the match in straight sets.

Graeme Swann

23Graeme Swann took his 100th Test wicket in last week’s defeat to Pakistan, his 23rd match. He is tied with Derek Underwood as the fastest post-war English spinner to 100 wickets. Shane Warne also took 23 Tests to complete his first century.

110 – Runs scored by opener Alastair Cook in England’s second innings, four more than he had scored in total in his previous eight Test innings this summer.

3 – Goals conceded by Tottenham in the first 28 minutes of the away leg of their Champions League qualifier against Swiss side Young Boys. Spurs recovered to 3-2 to give them a good chance of progressing to the group stage, which starts in mid-September.

14New Zealand‘s late comeback against South Africa in Saturday’s 29-22 victory was their 14th consecutive win and clinched the 2010 Tri-Nations title.

18 - Number of gold medals won by Great Britain‘s disabled swimming team at the IPC World Swimming Championships. Eleanor Simmonds added four golds to her two from the Beijing Paralympics.

1:41.09 - New world record time for the 800 metres set by Kenya’s David Rudisha in Berlin on Sunday afternoon. He beat the previous record by 0.02s, which had been held by Denmark’s Kenyan-born Wilson Kipketer since 1997.

28 – Years that David Moorcroft‘s British 5,000 metres record of 13:00.41 had stood before Mo Farah recorded a time of 12:57.94 at Thursday’s Diamond League meeting in Zurich.

18 – Number of games for which the French Football Federation has banned Nicolas Anelka over his conduct at the World Cup, from which he was sent home after a row with former national coach Raymond Domenech.
